Children’s Film Club
every Sat through early April; starts at 3:30pm
Prasad’s Preview Theatre in Banjara Hills

This week’s showing Kikujiro (Japanese with English subtitles). Japanese director Takeshi Kitano’s poignant film about a little boy who sets off across Japan in search of his mother will strike a chord in every child’s heart. Saturday February 9th at 3:30pm at Prasad’s Preview Theatre. Opp KBR Park , Road No 1, Banjara Hills. Ticket Info: Tickets available in person at the venue at the time of screening. Rs200 for adults and Rs150 for children. For TEA members: Rs150 for adults and Rs100 for kids. To book in advance, please email mayafilmsindia@gmail.com.

Kikujiro was made in 1999 and stars Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, an internationally acclaimed film maker who as well as making films is a comedian, actor, poet, painter and videogame designer! It has a beautiful score composed by Joe Hisaishi who has composed the music for most of Kitano’s films. As summer vacation begins, a boy named Masao sets out on a journey to find his mother, accompanied by an ex-yakuza, a bad mannered and downtrodden man named Kikujiro (played by Kitano). After Kikujiro gambles away all the money, the duo gets a ride from other travellers across the country. Along the way they meet a small but colourful cast of characters. Kitano's inspiration for the character was his own father, Kikujiro Kitano, a gambler who struggled to feed his family and pay the rent. The film is regarded as Kitano's funniest work. Aimed at the whole family, the film was allegedly inspired by the The Wizard of Oz, with the basic premise being a road trip.

Upcoming films include The Peace Tree, 400 Blows, Boot Polish, Kikujiro, Born Free, White Balloon, Unni, Quamer, The Kid. Exact schedules and details of each film will be published weekly.
